On the 23rd of November 2024, I had the honour of officiating a wedding that will forever hold a special place in my heart — my sister Courtney’s marriage to Mark. Surrounded by family, friends, and the rolling green hills of Yarramalong Valley Farm Stay, it truly felt like a fairy tale.
From the heartfelt ceremony to the joyful celebration that followed, every detail was perfect. And it wouldn’t have been possible without such a talented team of vendors who brought the day to life:
Celebrant: Mylee Cheers
Photography: Jacob Hughes Creative
Makeup: Alicia Anderson
Hair: Hair by Kendall Olivia
Wedding Co-ordinator: Memory Lane Weddings and Events
Cake: Let’s Get Baked Forster
Music: Luke Marlin
Catering: Fork n Knife
Florals: DP Florals
But beyond the styling, music, and stunning setting, the true stars of the day were my beautiful sister and her new husband. To stand by their side and lead their ceremony is a moment I’ll never forget.
How this wedding began my celebrant journey
When Courtney first asked me to officiate, I thought it was simply a one-time honour. But she turned to me and said, “You’d make an amazing celebrant — this could be your career.”
That moment planted the seed. Soon after, I enrolled in a 12-month celebrant course, completed my training, and walked a path I didn’t even know I was meant to follow.
Around the same time, my father-in-law faced deep grief, losing two siblings within weeks. Through his sadness, he said to me, “You’re such a great listener, Mylee — so caring. You should consider doing funerals too.”
And so, my calling became clear. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of officiating both weddings and funerals — each one an opportunity to honour life’s most significant moments with care, warmth, and heart. In fact, in my very first year as a celebrant, I’ve conducted more funerals and memorial services than weddings.
A passion and a privilege
Courtney and Mark’s wedding will always be the day that set me on this journey. It reminded me that being a celebrant is more than a role — it’s a passion, a calling, and an incredible privilege.
I feel so grateful to serve couples, families, and communities during life’s most meaningful milestones. And it all began with one magical day in the Yarramalong Valley.
